Personalise Learning using the ILP package
- Brain science assessment techniques to realistically identify all your students' learning styles in 20 minutes.
- Understand the natural learning preferences for each student, which teaching styles they respond to, and how to encourage whole brain thinking and learning.
- The ILP online software to create an Individual Learning Profile for each student.
- The ILP Go! online software to create an overview and analysis of the whole group/class.
- Optimal seating position for each student to maximise their potential.

ILP.. Assessment for Learning
Welcome to ILP - Individual Learning Profiles
Research into the brain has demonstrated the important role of brain and sensory 'dominances' in learning and behaviour for over 30 years.
With the ILP 1 day training course, online software and resources, we hope for the first time to make these findings realistically useable in a contemporary learning environment, to enhance the ease, flow and enjoyment of learning and teaching for everyone.
Individual Learning Profiles (ILP) is a way of discovering how an individual's brain and sensory system receives, processes and communicates information from the world around them.
We all favour a dominant, or 'lead' hand, ear, eye, foot and brain hemisphere. The permutations of these dominances give rise to a fascinating variety of learning preferences, and challenges.
ILP - 5 step assessment for the group or individual
Understanding is just minutes away
The one day ILP course teaches a simple way to assess these dominances, in 5 minutes for an individual, or just 20 minutes for the whole class.
Our online interactive software allows you to feed in the results of the assessment to create a clear, jargon free Individual Learning Profile report. See download section for examples.
The 20 minute whole-class assessment is facilitated by a Power Point presentation which the class leader guides the students through. The students fill their own answers on the supplied data sheets. This data can be used to generate the ILP reports.
ILP Reports
We present 32 different Individual Learning Profiles. Reports can be produced instantly using the ILP online software. This software is accessible via the ILP Members web site of this page. A unique password and 2 year license to the software and resources is sent to all those who have attended the 1 day course.
There are 2 reports generated for downloading and printing. A 2 page Full Report for use by the school /teacher/trainer, and a 1 page Summary report for the student and parent/guardian.
- Full Reports identify :
- natural learning preferences
- the impact of stress on learning
- techniques to adopt to make learning easier
- a seating position that enhances the learning potential
- suggested teaching techniques
- whole brain training activities and pursuits
- specialised exercises to reduce stress and enhance whole brain learning
ILP GO! - The ILP Group Overview
With ILP Go! Software an analysis of the whole class is generated in under 5 minutes. Simply enter the identification numbers provided on each ILP Report and the software will create an instant report in Word to download and print.
The ILP Go! Report provides clear graphs of the overall preferred learning styles, strengths and weakness in the group. Supportive text with suggestions on teaching to the strengths of each style and profile, assisting the teacher to flow between the needs of many is also provided.
Personalising Learning with ILP

Using ILP fulfils many of the key recommendations made in this government report, in particular, that schools should assess how each child learns and engage them in active self-management.
- ' Schools should consider how best to integrate 'learning how to learn' into the curriculum - focusing on the skills and attitudes pupils need to become better learners.'
- 'Schools should identify their own strategies for embedding assessment for learning'
- 'The government should take further action to ensure that assessment for learning is embedded in all schools and classrooms so that its benefits are clearly realised'
- 'Ofsted should report on the practices of schools that 'buck the trend' in boys' achievement.'
ILP fulfils the recommendations made by the research 'Learning skills and the development of learning capabilities'(DFES, 2007), in particular :
- 'Effective approaches are those which explicitly develop awareness of learning strategies and techniques, particularly when these are targeted at the meta-cognitive level.'
