The ActEi Activity Program is set to become one of the most advanced, easy to deliver and fun to experience, sensory and motor sensory body management programs in the world. It has been designed to enable all children to gain the core body management skills needed to achieve in sport and PE.
To be published by Val Sabin Publications , a highly regarded and respected leader in quality Physical Education courses and training materials, the ActEi program, created and developed at MovementInMind, will soon be ready to be delivered to schools throughout the UK and around the world.
Particularly suitable for children aged between 5 and 11 and especially children of all ages classed as having special educational needs, the 300 games and activities focus on improving a number of key areas of our neuro-physiological development. The natural human development of these areas are essential building blocks leading to higher brain function for fine motor control, skilled movement planning, cognitive abilities and emotional and behavioural self management skills.
The whole program comes complete with music CD's, DVD, easy to use photo-copiable manual, and a wide range of lesson and term plans for hassle free delivery.
Divided into 9 areas, ActEi aims to stimulate and speed the natural development of these areas to enable children to achieve in PE, and in all other areas of the school curriculum. It is now being recognised by educational psychologists, physical and movement therapists that under-development or delayed development in any or a combination of these areas can lead to significant difficulties with learning, behaviour and the ability to perform skilled movements. Teachers, therapists, SENCOs and educational psychologists are all reporting that an ever increasing number of children are exhibiting under development in a number of these areas giving rise to underachievement in age-related attainment levels in PE and in the classroom.
The areas presented in the ActEi program are:
- Body Awareness (Praxis)
- Co-ordination
- Muscle tone
- Proprioception
- Primitive and Postural Reflexes
- Tactile development
- Vestibular (balance)
- Visual development
- Calm and Reflection
The resources have been created to enable not only the specialists and trained PE teachers to deliver the program but in particular the non-specialists. The one day ActEi training session will cover the basis, dive into the processes involved and enable you to comfortably deliver the activities in the manual to your kids the very next day. The children experience every activity in the ActEi program as a game – some loud and hilarious, some quiet and reflective, some drama-rich, some challenging, all fun.
Underpinning and weaving through this program is work in the advanced fields of neurology, physiology, physical therapy, emotional intelligence, drama and movement re-education.
The term ActEi is an abbreviation of the three sections that form the building blocks of each area and indeed the whole program; Activation, Exploration and Integration. Each of the nine areas follows a sequence of games/activities beginning with the Activation section, followed by Exploration and finally Integration. The three sections each reflect hierarchical structures of the brain and mechanisms of assimilating and processing sensory and motor sensory information.
The initial games/activities used are from the Activation section. The Activation games have been created to stimulate the area you're working on, co-ordination, visual, tactile etc., in a general, non-specific way. The nature of these games focuses attention on the body management areas of the lower areas of the brain, and the central nervous system. The games are fun and dynamic and will awaken and stimulate the area being developed.
The next activities used are from the Exploration section. The Exploration activities work with the emotional intelligence of the mid and high brain centres. In essence these activities provide children with the opportunity to experience a drama-like activity, finding their own internal rhythms and personal sense of balance, co-ordination, vision, sense of calm etc. The Exploration activities combine a balance of imagination and movement in a self-exploration framework.
The final section is the Integration activities. These movement activities are more specific and are based on techniques used by movement and physical therapist. These are purposeful consciously sequenced and planned movements stimulating activity in the higher brain regions of the cerebral cortex.
The structure and sequence of the activities provides a natural progression that reflects a deeper mind-body process. This unique system enables the teacher to use classic games and activities, freedom of movement experiences and focused activities in a way never presented before.
The goal of ActEi is to help every child to accomplish each stage of their neuro-developmental journey, and leave them poised, competent, and with an appetite for physical activity, games and sport.
As a hands-on experience for teachers the program is easy to follow, with optional full guided lesson plans, and simple to deliver in 10, 20, 30 or 60 minute time slots.
The one day ActEi training day includes course manual with over 300 game cards for copying and accompanying music CDs and refresher training DVD. The day is active, fun, highly informative and will give you tools and knowledge to transform your teaching and life of every child that comes under your care.
