Brain Gym® is a program of simple and easy to use activities and techniques that actively develop the integration of the brain and sensory system, resulting in improved balance, co-ordination, attention, calm, and whole brain processing.
Brain Gym® was developed by an educationalist, Dr. Paul Dennison, at his learning centres from the late 60s. Through research into neuro-developmental movement programs, behavioural optometry, auditory processing, bi-lateral repatterning, kinesiology, postural reflexes and reactions to trauma and stress, he developed a program of 26 activities in a therapeutic system, to help those who were struggling to learn.
The results of implementing this program into his learning centres were phenomenal. Children and adults dramatically improved their academic skills, co-ordination, concentration and self-esteem.
So successful were the results, that Brain Gym continues to be used to improve and advance abilities and performance in children and adults all over the world.
The activities are safe, enjoyable and simple to follow yet are powerful enough to bring improvements in a very short space of time. Used extensively in schools, private clinics and by a range of therapists around the world, Brain Gym® is highly effective in overcoming a wide range of difficulties, and has been extensively used to treat:
- Dyslexia and reading problems
- Attention deficit disorder (ADD) and ADHD
- Autistic spectrum disorders
- Emotional and behavioural disorders
- Effects of trauma and stress, phobias, anxiety
It is also used to encourage
- Peak performance, sporting, academic, public speaking
- Self esteem
- Achievement of personal goals
Brain Gym teaches all of us to use our whole brain to process information and become more balanced and competent as a result. It can be used in school as a whole class activity, and to especially support those with extra needs. It can be used to enhance performance and reduce stress in business, sport and clinical practice, and used as an individual therapeutic discipline.
In individual Brain Gym® treatments we recognise the significance of 'labels', but put them aside to assess and treat each individual holistically and according to their specific needs. The focus is on making a positive change within their brain-body system and sensory organisation to enable a greater adaptability, flexibility and capability for new learning experiences.
